Training Course
An Overview of 10 CFR 50, Appendix B

General Course Description:
The course is intended to introduce the student to the application of Quality Assurance concepts in a nuclear power plant setting. It also provides an introduction into the regulations associated with Quality Assurance, including the basics of procurement and defect reporting.

Recommended Student Population:
This is an entry-level Quality Assurance course. Since Quality Assurance concepts are pervasive in a nuclear power plant environment, the course is suitable for a wide-range of personnel. It would be considered basic for personnel with extensive Quality Assurance background.

Course Length:
The course is one day in length.

Method of Instruction:
The majority of the class is spent highlighting the various Appendix B criteria in the context of a story, or sequence of events occurring at a mythical power plant. Quality Assurance is depicted as a set of behaviours or characteristics of behaviours that define, in part, a high quality organization. As part of this illustration, a classic comedy routine from vaudeville's past is used to identify characteristics that define "High Quality."

Degree of Site-Specific Customization,
if developed for a single site:
The site's Facility Operating License, Quality Assurance Program or Topical Report, and selected site Quality Procedures are related to course learning objectives.

Special Course Features or Prerequisites:
This course provides an excellent foundation for many different disciplines, including licensing, engineering, maintenance, among others. It does not have a recommended prerequisite.
