Regulatory Treatment of
Compensatory Measures General Course Description: The course is provides the student with expanded skills in the use of Compensatory Measures. Specifically, it examines a variety of uses of Compensatory Measure to support interim operation during the corrective action period. A detailed examination of relationship to the Operability Determination Process is conducted. This includes the use of Manual Action and Maintenance Activities in support of Operability Determinations. Recommended Student Population: This is appropriate for graduates of "Response to Conditions Adverse to Quality." Students must be qualified to perform both 10 CFR 50.59 Screenings and Operability Determinations. The class begins with a two-hour review of
Corrective Action basics, 10 CFR 50.59 Screenings, and Operability
Determinations. This review would be beneficial as part of reviewer requalification, but not as an initial introduction. In the first
segment the class reviews the fundamental information associated with
Corrective Action, 10 CFR 50.59 Screenings, and Operability
Determinations. This information will be relied upon in the
remainder of the class and is summarized on posters and handouts. As
discussed above, this review is appropriate for previously qualified
individuals. This segment is approximately two hours in length. The third segment comprises
the majority of the course and consists of nine illustrative examples.
Each example is analyzed utilizing the standardized questions and
graphic developed in the second segment. These examples range from
simplistic to complex. Industry experience is extensively utilized. Five
of the nine examples are drawn from issues that generated regulatory
scrutiny at the selected sites. Ample opportunity is provided to discuss
each example to ensure that the students fully understand the learning
objectives and their implications. |
